Seftonite also known as African Bloodstone or Vulcan Jasper is a translucent, moss green variety of chalcedony & holds the same metaphysical properties of Indian Bloodstone (Heliotrope).

Throughout the ancient & medievil world, Bloodstone was worn as an amulet. It has been famed for its power to control the weather & banish evil. It is one of the earliest known healing stones, it occurs in a 5 thousand year old Mesopotamian recipie for purifying the blood. Bloodstone was said to have the power of healing wounds, its coagulating effect probably comes from the iron oxide present in the stone. [Judy Hall]
